Training or groups rides in area
« on: December 22, 2009, 08:49:13 pm »
Hi there.  Just a quick question for you Novacastrians.  Coming up to Newcastle from melbourne for approx 3 weeks in early jan and was wondering if anyone on this forum can let me know of any decent training or groups rides that run around the area???  Thanks heaps.

There are only two that I know of that are regular, there are more but I have never been on them, you can get the info about them here.

http://www.hunterdistrict.com/bunch_rides.htm

Here are the two that I know are still going

Quote
Wednesday - Mornings

There is a bunch which leaves the racecourse at 7am. Raymond Terrace return, rolling turns prcticing paceline dicipline. Focus on smooth turns and transitions at speed.

Grade MEDIUM-HARD approx 70-80 kms by the time we get home. In town about 9.00am.

Saturdays – All year round

Meet 7am car park adjacent to Hadley Cycles Lambton.

Grading EASY        Distance  38k

Returning around 8.30am

Many people join along the way and some depart early, so you don’t have to go the whole distance. Bring your own pump and spare because we don’t stop for punctures and there are plenty of short cuts for riders who puncture.

I am sure some others can add and confirm the other rides.
No longer a Hubbard or a Commuter, just a very naughty boy.

There is ride that leaves the Broadmeadow Horse Racecourse @ 7.00am each Tuesday, travels to Raymond Terrace and return, back shortly after 8.30am.  Alternates weekly between a hard week and an easy week, with the hard weeks having 4 or 5 long hi-speed efforts.  A highly controlled ride, so if you are not super smooth in a bunch expect some constructive comments.  Not for inexperienced or unfit riders - targets the A/B/C grade club racer.
Well, no merger so far....

Ha........................

Seriously, I have ridden this ride the past two weeks on my track bike!  Much tougher than on the road bike - sitting on 55 - 62 kph when riding a 48-15 gear set is tiring.  I am paying for it today.

Well, no merger so far....

There is a bunch riding into newy at around 5.30-5.45am every thursday morning. Looks like they are going along pretty hard. Does anyone know where they start from? I am looking for an early morning ride on thursdays (need to be back in newy around 6am).

Last Thursday?  You might be talking about the bunch I was with but more likely another bunch we saw that included Magic Steve, Go Steve, iLovell and a few other A graders.  Not sure where they leave but we passed them at Newcastle Ocean Baths at about 6am.
Well, no merger so far....

Will average between 28-32 km/hr depending on course, wind etc. I have just lost nearly 30kg in the last 18 months so be encouraged - it takes a little bit of work but really pays off in the end.

Hey robbo if you do more this week than last weeki- chances are you've lost some. That's how I do it and it doesn't take long champ. 10 mins a day comes up around 5-6 kilos a year. I heard someone at track say it recently.
You're dead, have a nice day!
